Grants are given to Bangladeshi nationals who are normally resident in Bangladesh and who intend to return to Bangladesh at the end of their studies. Awards are given to Bangladeshi students studying in British higher education institutions at postgraduate level, primarily PhD students. They are intended as supplements to other sources of funding and are applicable to a wide range of disciplines in the arts, humanities, science and technology.
Criteria for Awards – Information for Students
The Trust can provide financial support to students from Bangladesh who are studying for a postgraduate degree at a recognised British University – usually in the final year. In order to be considered, students must:
· Be citizens of Bangladesh and normally resident there · Provide a short CV together with biographical details and a note on their intended career in Bangladesh · Give details of their course or research project and a realistic estimate of its completion date · Provide: · full details of current finances and where they come from · details of all other applications that have been made for financial assistance, both in the UK and elsewhere · a letter of support from their academic supervisor. Trustees will consider applications primarily on the grounds of academic merit although financial need must be demonstrated. Preference will be given to those studying areas relevant to the culture and development of Bangladesh. There is no upper age limit but it is unusual for trustees to support students over the age of forty. The Trust has only very limited resources - the amount of any one award is assessed individually but is unlikely to be more than a few hundred pounds. The Trust is not a source of primary funding. Please note that normally, the Trust does not: · make grants to students already in receipt of full awards managed by the British Council or any international agency · make retrospective grants or pay debts · pay for conferences or for overseas travel · pay for return travel to Bangladesh. Students who think that they are eligible should apply to the Secretary in the first instance by email, and send details as requested above by e-mail (or post if preferred). The Secretary does not answer questions or consider requests over the telephone. Applications for grants are generally considered at 6 month intervals, in December and June, but in exceptional circumstances decisions on grants may be made outside these dates. All grants are given at the discretion of the Trustees whose decision is final.
